Since having determined my daughter's disability is life long, the heaviest concern in my head, and my heart, is:
What happens to her, if something happens to me?
I know that the answer to that question is long and complicated, inclusive of life planning and wonderful services but, who will know how all of that works if I'm in an accident? My husband and I are both in an accident? How long will it take someone to figure out they should call my her brother across the country, who has been part of our planning? Or her grandparents? How will they find the contact information? Immediately?
While nothing can be foolproof, maybe a piece of jewelry, like a medical alert bracelet or necklace that says "Guardian" with a number to call, can initiate the safeguard, without me.
